Brief Description
The early history of Cambridge and District was produced for the Cambridge Centennial celebrations in 1964 by H G Carter, secretary of the Cambridge Historical Society. 'Only one hundred years ago [in 1964] this rich pastoral area was clothed with an endless sea of ti-tree and fern, broken by vast swamps, while the surrounding hills were covered with dense forest.'
Soldiers, Settlers, School and Set backs. Land Courts, Confiscations, Communication and Churches. Redoubts, Roads, Recreation and Railway. Farming, Factories and Fires. These subjects and more are covered in this 72 page booklet.
