Fencourt Settlement 1900

Brief Description:
Government booklet giving a detailed description of the 7,047 acres on the former Fen Court Estate that the government subdivided into 34 farms. 'The land is partly chocolate-coloured alluvial and partly dark alluvial soil overlaying a bed of pumice and gravel of considerable depth. It carries good crops of grass, grain, and roots, and is eminently suited for dairying purposes, &c.
'There are about fifty-six miles of post and wire and other fencing, all in good order. The buildings comprise of a large dwelling house, with numerous out buildings, stockyard, &c., situated in Section 23. A woolshed and several small cottages are erected on other sections.'
Directions to lease applicants. Ballot to be held 16 March 1900.
