Title / Name
Kairangi Field Trip

Brief Description
An address given on a field trip to the Kairangi District by Eric Beer in 1969. Topics covered were Kairangi Valley; Kairangi settlement of the 1930s; the murder of Timothy Sullivan in 1873. Explained also was the naming of Norwegian Road – 'The name was given to this road at Roto-o-rangi in memory of two Norwegians who operated a flax mill at the entrance to [what was then] the property of Mr John Pegg. Little is known about the two men themselves. The road was originally called Norwegians' Mill Road and was then changed to Hannon Road.'
Some years ago (1957) Mr E S Beer and others prepared a petition to have the road named Norwegian Road.
