Brief Description
A small A5 booklet of 22 pages recording the report and proceedings of a Public Reception and Presentation to Thos Wells when he retired from public life in Cambridge 18 August 1905.
'The retirement of Mr Wells from public life, after a period of 35 years, 27 of which were spent in continuous service for the great benefit of Cambridge and the surrounding district, presented an occasion for the tangible recognition of his efforts in the public interest.'
'In the presence of one of the largest and most representative gatherings that has ever assembled in the Waikato, including several visitors from Auckland, Mr Wells was presented with a purse of 150 sovereigns and a handsomely illuminated and framed address.'
The Executive committee was James Taylor, John Fisher, Robert Fisher, Richard Reynolds, W N deL Willis, Samuel Adams, James Hally, Charles Boyce, Henry Kerr, Geo E Clark, F J Brooks and Geo Dickinson. Others who spoke were James Forrest, E Veale, T W Hicks and Arch Clark of Auckland.
The Ladies' Committee was Mesdames Willis, J Hally, H Kerr, C Hunter, A F Stone, McCullagh, Dickinson, Brooks, G E Clark, H Clark, Runciman, Reynolds and E E Roberts.
Included in the booklet were Press Opinions from Waikato Independent, N Z Graphic, Observer, N Z Herald and Auckland Star.
