Title / Name
Whitehall Settlement Disposal of 8,954 acres.
Brief Description
Small A5 soft cover booklet setting out the particulars, terms and conditions for lease in perpetuity for nine sections offered on 9 April 1900.
Married women who forwarded their applications through the post were requested to give the full name and address of their husbands opposite the word 'Occupation' on the application form.
Whitehall was described, at that time – 'The property is situated in the Waikato district, within about five miles of the Borough of Cambridge, in a prosperous agricultural and pastoral district. Cambridge is 101 miles from the city of Auckland by rail, and trains run daily between the two places. Monthly sales of stock etc are held at Cambridge. There is a fruit preserving factory there, and a flourishing creamery is within a mile of the settlement. There is a cheese and bacon factory at Hautapu, about two miles from Cambridge. Communication with the Borough of Cambridge and Railway station is by a good metalled road, and a well formed district road runs through the settlement. A shorter road from Whitehall to Cambridge is at present used for horses or stock only.'
