Ken was born in Cambridge in 1901 and carried on his father's and grandfather's business which had started as a plumbing business in 1888. This progressed to the motor industry and he was given the Ford Dealership for Cambridge.
He married Ruth Webb in 1923.

Ken became a Justice of the Peace in 1935 and was elected to Council in 1938-1947. He was then Mayor from 1947 to 1953 and again from 1956 to 1962 when he died in office.

He was given the Coronation Medal in 1953 and at his death was the longest serving councillor in Cambridge's history.
