Pat was born in Auckland Patricia Cameron Steel and came to Cambridge in 1952 with husband Jim. They went on to raise four children.
Pat was Mayoress of Cambridge for 6 years when her husband Jim was Mayor and she has been involved with Plunket, Resthaven, Pensioner Housing and Voluntary Social Welfare work for 30 years.
Pat was elected to Council in 1983 and served her time as Mayor from 1985 to 1989 when Cambridge, Te Awamutu, Kihikihi and Pirongia amalgamated to become Waipa District Council.
Pat has spent a lot of energy as a voluntary social welfare worker and for her good works in the community and Local Government was awarded the 1990 medal and the Queen's Service Medal in 1991.
